south island photos
This photo was taken on a family holiday to Stewart Island, which is a reasonably large island further south than New Zealand's South Island. It is covered in native bush, and has abundant native wildlife.
This is a photo of sunrise over Lake Dunstan in the central South Island. Dunstan is a man made lake, created when the Clyde Dam was constructed on the Clutha River. What used to be part of the town of Cromwell is now under the lake.
This photo is looking along the shore of Lake Wanaka in the central South Island, while on a winter holiday. There are a number of well known ski-fields near Wanaka, including Treble Cone and Cardrona.
This photo is looking directly out over Lake Wanaka. The central lakes district of Otago has many lakes nestled in spectacular mountains, making for a combination of excellent skiing and beautiful scenery. This lake is only an hours drive from Queenstown, a well known winter ski destination.
